Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I fit a speed control?
Speed Limiters help to improve driver safety, reduce accidents, and lower fuel maintenance costs. They also ensure compliance with company policies and local regulations – protecting both your drivers and your business.
How can I find out if I need to fit speed controls by law?
Speed control laws vary by country and vehicle type. In the U.S, most mandates apply to commercial fleets, government, or specialty vehicles. We recommend checking local Department of Transportation (DOT) or regional transport authority guidelines. Our team can advise on compliance requirements for your region.
Can my drivers disable the system?
No. Autokontrol systems have an easy tamper-proof testing facility. For the engine management system it would be very difficult. In the case of the mechanical systems, it is theoretically possible. Autokontrol’s Top Speed Limiter Security Monitor system has been designed to counteract the growing problem of Top Speed Limiter interference and tampering. It is simple, quick to detect and extremely cost effective.
The most common interference problems are:
- Disconnection of the power supply
- Disconnection of the gearbox sensor
- Removal of the tacho signal
- Tampering with mechanical components of the speed control
- Driving in excess of the maximum set speed of the vehicle
The TSL Security Monitor has a simple LED system that lights up if tampering occurs.
Will my insurance premiums be reduced if I fit the system?
Many insurers recognize speed management technology as a safety enhancement and may offer discounts or lower premiums. Check with your insurance provider – we can provide documentation if needed.
Will the installation of an Autokontrol system invalidate the vehicle warranty?
No. Our systems integrate with the vehicle’s existing electronics using approved, non-invasive methods. Installation does not interfere with OEM Components or void manufacturer warranties when performed by a certified installer.
Is this system approved in my country?
Autokontrol speed control systems are approved in over 40 countries. They are used worldwide and comply with key safety and performance standards recognized across Europe, North America, and other global markets. Contact us for region-specific certification details.
Why fit a speed control – if the speed can be set in the vehicle’s engine management control?
Factory settings often provide only basic speed limitation. Autokontrol systems offer far greater flexibility – including adjustable speed profiles, geo-fencing, and fleet-wide control. They can also be removed or reprogrammed without affecting the vehicle’s resale value or ECU integrity.
