Speed Limiters for Iveco Trucks: S-Way, X-Way, Eurocargo and Daily

Iveco has a well-established presence in the UK commercial vehicle market, offering a complete range from the 3.5-tonne Daily van through to 44-tonne tractor units. The Italian manufacturer’s strength lies in its breadth — few other brands cover the full weight spectrum from light commercial to heavy haulage with the depth that Iveco provides.

AutoKontrol has supplied speed limiters for Iveco vehicles throughout our 41-year history. We hold application data for every current and recent Iveco model, from the Daily light commercial to the S-Way long-haul tractor.

Iveco Model-by-Model Speed Limiter Guide

Iveco S-Way

The S-Way is Iveco’s flagship long-haul tractor unit, replacing the Stralis in 2019. It is powered by Cursor 11 and Cursor 13 engines with the latest electronic throttle management. The S-Way uses modern drive-by-wire throttle systems throughout the range.

Recommended product:

Iveco X-Way

The X-Way is Iveco’s construction and off-road truck, designed for tipper, mixer, and heavy-duty site work. It shares its Cursor engine platform and electronic architecture with the S-Way.

Recommended product:

For construction applications, AutoKontrol can configure lower maximum speed settings to meet site safety requirements.

Iveco Eurocargo

The Eurocargo is one of the UK’s most popular medium-duty trucks, covering the 7.5 to 19 tonne range. It has been a mainstay of UK distribution fleets for decades and is widely used for urban deliveries, food logistics, and municipal work. The current Eurocargo uses Tector engines with electronic drive-by-wire throttle.

Recommended product:

Iveco Daily

The Daily spans the 3.5 to 7.2 tonne range and occupies a unique position — it is simultaneously a large van and a small truck. The Daily is extremely popular in the UK for deliveries, courier work, minibus conversions, and specialist bodywork. Current Daily models use a 3.0-litre diesel engine with electronic throttle control.

Recommended product:

The Daily at 3.5 tonnes is not legally required to have a speed limiter, but many fleet operators choose to fit one for safety, insurance, and fuel efficiency reasons. Daily models over 3.5 tonnes fall within the mandatory speed limiter regulations.

Additional Solutions for Iveco Fleets

TrackSpeed: Speed Limiting with GPS Tracking

TrackSpeed integrates an AutoKontrol speed limiter with ScorpionTrack Fleet GPS tracking. Iveco fleet operators gain verified speed compliance, live vehicle tracking, route history, and driver behaviour data from a single installation.

For operators running mixed Iveco fleets — Dailys alongside Eurocargos and S-Ways — TrackSpeed provides consistent speed management visibility across all vehicle types.

GeoKontrol 2: Geofenced Speed Control

GeoKontrol 2 automatically adjusts the vehicle’s maximum speed based on GPS location. When an Iveco enters a restricted zone — a residential 20mph area, a depot approach, or a customer loading bay — GeoKontrol 2 caps the speed without driver intervention.

This standalone IoT device requires no telematics subscription. Fleet managers can define their own geofenced zones or use automatic zone detection.

Speed Limiter Regulations

Speed limiter requirements depend on vehicle weight:

  • Goods vehicles 3.5 to 7.5 tonnes: Limited to 56 mph (90 km/h) — covers Daily 7.2t, Eurocargo
  • Goods vehicles over 7.5 tonnes: Limited to 56 mph (90 km/h) — covers Eurocargo, X-Way, S-Way
  • Passenger vehicles with more than 8 seats: Limited to 62 mph (100 km/h) — covers Daily minibus conversions

These are governed by ECE Regulation 89 (R89) and enforced by the DVSA. Non-compliance risks prohibition notices, fines, and operator licence consequences.

The EU General Safety Regulation (EU 2019/2144) introduces Intelligent Speed Assistance (ISA) requirements for new type approvals, further strengthening the case for proactive speed management.
