What is SENT and Why Does It Matter?
SENT (Single Edge Nibble Transmission) is a digital communication protocol used by the latest vehicle throttle position sensors. Unlike older analogue or PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) signals, SENT transmits throttle position data as a series of digital “nibbles” — providing higher accuracy, better noise immunity, and faster response times.
Major vehicle manufacturers including DAF, Mercedes, Scania, Volvo, and MAN have adopted SENT sensors in their Euro VI and later platforms. This means traditional drive-by-wire speed limiters that intercept analogue or PWM throttle signals cannot work on these newer vehicles. A SENT-specific speed limiter is required.

How the SENT Speed Limiter Works
The SENT Speed Limiter is installed between the vehicle’s throttle position sensor and the engine ECU. It monitors the SENT data stream in real time and, when the vehicle reaches the preset speed limit, modifies the throttle position signal to prevent further acceleration.
The system operates transparently — the engine ECU sees a normal SENT signal at all times. There are no error codes, no check engine lights, and no interference with other vehicle systems. The speed limit is factory-set and secured with a tamper-evident seal.

What happens if I fit a DBW limiter to a SENT vehicle?
It won’t work. The DBW limiter expects a PWM or analogue signal. A SENT vehicle transmits digital nibbles that the DBW unit cannot interpret. You will get either no speed limiting or engine fault codes. Always verify your vehicle’s throttle protocol before ordering.
Can the SENT limiter be retrofitted to older vehicles?
The SENT limiter is designed for SENT-protocol vehicles. For older vehicles with analogue or PWM throttle signals, use our DBW Speed Limiter. For cable-throttle vehicles, use the System 80.
